Multi Instruments Analytical BV is well known for being a leading provider of comprehensive emission analysis systems. With our many years of experience in developing customized systems; we can provide expert advice to meet our clients’ needs and specifications. In addition, our extensive knowledge and expertise allows Multi Instruments to design and manufacture complete steam/water conditioning panels for the continuous monitoring of pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen, as well as less common but equally critical measurements. These expertly constructed panels are made entirely of stainless steel and constructed according to the Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) of our customers to ensure complete customer satisfaction and equipment reliability. These systems are built with our own components, manufactured in house, such as valves and heat exchangers. Our capabilities include proprietary cooler designs of 6, 12 and 15 meters which make it possible to analyze steam samples at up to 540 ° C and up to 250 bar pressure.

The quality of the water used to generate steam is crucial for the reliability and durability of the boiler feedwater system. Indeed,
increases in the quality of water will result in reductions in maintenance, replacement and heating costs, with the added
benefit of helping to minimize impact on the environment. By monitoring the pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen, it is
possible to determine the water and steam quality. However, due to extreme process conditions, measurements cannot be
carried out directly in the pipes or tanks.
Multi Instruments Analytical BV has developed a unique compact sampling panel, which has been utilized by both the
power generation and petrochemical industry. These panels help to quickly and precisely analyze the feedwater’s acidity as
well as its concentration of minerals, allowing industries to protect their equipment prevent costly damages caused by
sediment buildup, corrosion and leakage.

Specifications

The system is composed strictly of the highest quality
components from leading manufacturers. In order to help make
Multi Instruments Analytical a truly “one stop shop”, many
more options are available to meet our customers’ requirements
including:

  • Temperature and flow sensors to guard against overheating
  • Magnetic valves.
  • Water cooling flow indicators
  • Cation filters.

Additionally, specialty components such as total organic carbon
(TOC) and silica analyzers can easily be included to create a
system that is truly unique to our customers’ special applications.
Furthermore, Multi Instruments proprietary cooling system and
needle valves are used to ensure maximum reliability. However, if
desired, customers can select components from different
manufacturers to build a customized system that will

HOW DOES THE SYSTEM WORK?
The feedwater and the saturated or over-saturated steam are carried via a ‘sample’ pipe through a cooler that is exclusively
designed by and for Multi Instruments Analytical BV .
The pressure is then reduced and the water goes through a cation filter*.
The flow rate and temperature are carefully controlled in order to prevent damage to the electronics.
After the water is filtered, its pH, conductivity values (in μS) and dissolved oxygen are determined by using the latest in
electrode technology. Each concentration measurement can be read via a simple display.
Our panels offer the capability of analyzing multiple samples simultaneously, which are conducted at various locations in the
boiler system. Moreover, with our system it is possible to take samples manually for further laboratory research.
* Cation filters are used in ultrapure water, and only for conductivity measurement.

The sample cooler MI-xx-304/316 is suitable for accurate and efficient sampling at high pressure and temperature. In the
event of changes to the feedwater system, the Multi Instruments solutions allows the stainless steel cooling coils, available
separately, to be easily be switched on location. They come in lengths of 6, 12 and 15 meters, as well as in a variety of materials
including 304/316 stainless steel, Hastelloy®, Inconel®, and copper.
The easy to use tri-clamp on the heat exchanger simplifies the control of the cooling coil, and a ½” NPTF thread is used on the
cooling water outlet and inlet connections. The cooler can also be equipped with a safety valve if desired.
All of our coolers are pressure tested according to all the latest requirements. And if necesary, to the requirements specified by
different countries, such as Canada and the USA. Material Certificate DN 3.1B and hydrostatic test certificates are
available.
